Why do we make happiness so hard?

We talk about happiness as if it’s something of a myth, something only the “lucky” can have and it’s just something to be chased.
But why? Happiness is just an emotion, it’s just as easy to feel as any other emotion.
So what is stopping you?
Is it because we are constantly bombarded on TV and social media of all the dreamy things that look and sound amazing, like the “perfect” relationships, picturesque holidays and designer hand bags. For the other 99% we are left to believe that, that life equals happiness. That life is a happy one and until we have that we can’t be happy?
There is so much pressure on social media to portray an image of being happy, we break our backs working every day to buy a pair of shoes that will leave us skint, just to post on social media. We are left to assume that someone with lavish things are happy because that is the way its portrayed on their social media.
Well true long-term happiness doesn’t work like that, you need to be true to yourself and do the things that genuinely makes you feel purpose and fulfilment. It’s not what other people or social media tells you. Subtract the things that doesn’t make you happy and add in the stuff that does, it’s that simple.
It’s dangerous because the people who are tricked into thinking they need to have stuff to be happier realise once they’ve bought this stuff that they are still not happy and can bring on depression “why do I have all the things that should make me happy but im still not happy?”, this is so common for this younger generation to feel, they constantly chasing something that doesn’t really exist.
We are looking in the wrong places for happiness.
During my 1:1 coaching I use several methods including cognitive behavioural coaching were we work together to identify the root of the problem and what might be stopping you from reaching your full potential and what action is needed to take charge of the situation.
I work with people who are in general not truly happy and want change but without any real understanding of what has to change.
