Whenever I talk about meditation, I am normally greeted with a sceptical look. Even though it’s becoming more popular many people still disregard the benefits from mediation and don’t consider it a real solution to many problems.
Meditation can do whatever you want it to do. Sometimes I take a minute to examine how I feel that day and follow a guided meditation to help resolve this issue. It is as simple as downloading an app or searching on YouTube whatever you feel like you may need. My usual meditation sessions are focused around, empowerment, confidence, forgiveness and motivation. I have found that usually the more resistance I have to the focus of the meditation the more it can make a difference.
There are several different styles of meditation. Here is a few:
· Yoga
· Breath awareness meditation
· Body scan meditation
· Mindful mediation
· Mantra mediation
· Guided mediation
· Metta meditation
· Chakra meditation.
They all work in different ways and some are more popular than others depending on the culture and the reason for practicing it. Try out a few and see what works best for you.
Guided mediation can have significant benefits for the mind. Many studies have been conducted which show that mediation can help with depression, addictions, control anxiety, lengthens attention spam, increases emotional intelligence, increases empathy, the list goes on.
Although it does wonders for the mind, our body and mind work together so releasing stress has massive physical health benefits. Some studies have found that meditation can increase immunity, lower blood pressure, results in better sleep, relieve symptoms of IBS and again the list goes on.
But meditation comes with its difficulties, by no means will you do 1 meditation session and reap all of the benefits, it requires work and persistence. This can be difficult for those struggling with anxiety, chronic stress or other mental health issues. This is because dealing with and accepting negative thoughts can be hard. It is hard to be alone inside our cluttered minds. I have cried countless times throughout a meditation, this is actually really normal and can be good for you. EVERYONE can do it and will be able to find their own way that works for them. Everyone should give it a try, I promise it is worth the persistence and hard work.
Try it today, there are many apps and YouTube content to use. The apps I mostly use is Mindspace and Meditopia, I would recommend both for first timers.
